PURPOSE:To produce Babylonia japonica toxin without relying on a toxified Babylonia japonica, by cultivating a microorganism belonging to coryneform bacteria in a culture medium containing a bromine compound. CONSTITUTION:A coryneform bacterium YIT-6013 (FERM-P NO.8325) or a microorganism, belonging to the same genus and having the ability to produce Babylonia japonica toxin is cultivated in a culture medium containing a bromine compound, preferably containing a peptone as a main nutrient component in 0.01-0.5%, expressed in terms of NaBr, concentration, and the aimed Babylonia japonica toxin, preferably neosurugatoxin and/or prosurugatoxin is collected from the resultant culture fluid.
