PURPOSE:To separate dimethylacetamide from a mixed solvent at a low cost, by utilizing the formation of a molecular clathrate complex, consisting of dimethylacetamide and a diol or monool and having a shift of the infrared absorption peak of OH group within a specific range. CONSTITUTION:A molecular clathrate complex, consisting of dimethylacetamide and a diol or monool and having the absorption peak of OH group at a position shifted to the side of 20-300cm-1 shorter wavelength than the absorption peak of an infrared adsorption spectrum assigned to stretching vibration of OH group of the diol or monool. A substance capable of forming the above-mentioned molecular clathrate complex, e.g. a diol expressed by formula I or monool expressed by formula II, is brought into contact with a dimethylacetamide- containing solution to form the molecular clathrate complex, which is then separated from the mixture solution. The dimethylacetamide is further eliminated from the separated molecular clathrate complex. If the shift of the absorption peak of the OH group is within the above-mentioned range, the stabilization of the clathrate formation and elimination of the dimethylacetamide from the clathrate compound can be suitably carried out.
