PURPOSE:To reduce equipping cost of a shearing machine by arranging a thermal insulating cover capable of opening and closing at an upstream side of the shearing machine and allowing the thermal insulating cover to open and close in accordance with the temp. of a casting billet. CONSTITUTION:The two-division type thermal insulating cover 6 capable of opening and closing is arranged at a downstream side of pinch rolls 5 and as well at the upstream side of the shearing machine 7. The thermal insulating cover 6 is constituted of half-covers 11, 12 divided into two in a longitudinal direction, and also lined with thermal insulators 14, 16 at the inside of outer shells 13, 15 and arranged so as to pass the casting billet 4 through inner thereof. A thermometer 30 is arranged at the outlet of the cover 6 and its detecting signal is inputted in a control device 31. The control device 31 controls a driving device of supporting members 17, 19 in accordance with the temp. of the casting billet, to open and close the thermal insulating cover 6. In this way, as the casting billet 6 is sheared at the optimum temp., the equipping cost of the shearing machine is reduced and the quality of the casting billet 4 is improved.
