PRODUCTION OF EXTRACT OF JAPANESE ANGELICA ROOT (RHIZOME OF ANGELICA ACUTILOBA KITAGAWA) OF HIGH QUALITY

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled extract having improved wound curing effect, skin adjusting and safety, etc., by defatting the dried rhizome of Angelica acutiloba Kitagawa with an organic solvent, extracting the defatted rhizome with water or hot water, and purifying the resultant extract with a synthetic adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:The dried rhizome of Angelica acutiloba Kitagawa is directly or in the form of fragments or powder is defatted or extracted with an organic solvent, e.g. n-hexane, benzene, toluene or xylene, to remove oil-soluble components, e.g. essential oil. The resultant defatted rhizome is then extracted with water or hot water. The resultant extract is purified with a synthetic resin adsorbent, e.g. adsorbent having a giant network structure and hydrophobic resin surface, and capable of adsorbing and separating an organic material in an aqueous solution; a copolymer consisting of styrene and divinylbenzene to afford the aimed extract of the Angelica acutiloba Kitagawa of high quality. The above-mentioned extract is light brown-white powder or viscous liquid.
