CONTINUOUS CUTTING APPARATUS OF LONG-SIZED HARD AND BRITTLE MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To cut a glass rod drawn out of a crucible and formed to a long size material continuously and uniformly into products of fixed length without giving vibration or bending force by cutting synchronously with the cutting speed. CONSTITUTION:A fixed blade 36 and a movable cutting blade 38 provided to a pair of rotary disc 34 and 35 respectively are faced to each other and the discs are rotated synchronously with the drawing speed of a glass rod 8. Namely, the glass rod 8 is drawn out from a crucible 4 by a specified length to pass through between the disc 34 and 35 using a stretching roll 14 and an idler roll 17, and the discs 34 and 35 are rotated simultaneously and synchronously with the drawing speed. When the blade 36 and 38 confront to each other (during this time, the glass rod 8 is never stopped and the blades 36 and 38 move downward with a uniform speed), the movable cutting blade 38 is moved forward and gives an impulse to the glass rod 8 between the fixed blade 36 and cuts the glass rod 8.
