The boom (2), which is pivoted on the foremast (1) of the trawler, is attached by a cable (3) via a block on the foremast to one drum (4) on the motorised winch. The cable (6), between the main drum (10) of the winch and the trawled net (13), passes around a fixed block (9), a block (8) attached to a tension detector (12) and a block (8) on the outer end of the boom (2). The detector (12), which may be an electrical or hydraulic type is anchored on a vertical post (11) forward of the mast and near the edge of the boat. - The variations in tension are used to maintain the angle (a) between the sections of taut cable on each side of the detector block (8), by adjusting the boom position and the winch speed.
