The mechanism is intended for simultaneously sliding one board (44,45) carrying prods. into a pre-determined level at the entry side of a storage magazine and thereby moving a similar board from that level out at the opposite exit side. Endless chain lift units horizontally movable along the entry and exit sides of the magazine are provided with vertically movable board insert and board receiving means respectively and mechanisms are provided near floor level to transfer boards from a supply conveyor to a loading lift and from an unloading lift to a discharge conveyor. The loading lift transfer mechanism comprises a board pusher (43) movable over the supply conveyor and arranged at one end of a two-armed long lever (37) of which the other end (36) is driven by a crank (35) rotated (about 49) by a drive (32-34) derived from the lift chain drive. The central pivot (38) of this lever is supported (fork 39) by an upright swivel (41) arm (40). A similar transfer mechanism is provided for the unloading lift.
