The device comprises a forked-shaped part (20-23) attached to the transport unit front end, projecting forwardly from it. The forked-shaped part has teeth (20-21,22-23) arranged in pairs, the facing edges (20A-21A,22A-23A) of which diverge outwards from the transport unit to form a V-shaped gap. This enables the teeth to be advanced on opposite sides of the tree trunk to be felled. The teeth edges are of the knife type so that they can control and draw forward the tree trunk during felling. On top of the transport unit is fixed a retention part (19) for tree trunks which, in turn, is provided with knife-edge type grippers for penetration of the trunks as they are felled over the transport unit.
