A 5-phenylthiazole derivative represented by the formula: IMAGE wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group, a hydroxyl group, an amino group or a mercapto group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof shows a cardiac effect and a low toxicity to a human or animal with little influence on atrium rhythms.
