The spindle (11) has a reduced diameter at its end to receive the inner races (9, 10) of deep wall bal bearings (3, 4). The bearings are retained by circlip (12). A reinforcing sleeve (2) of fibre reinforced plastic embraces the outer races (5, 6), spaced by annular ring (8). The sleeve has a tapered skirt portion (14) with openings (15) which impart a degree of flexibility. A hard wearing covering (7) embraces the outer edges of the races (5, 6), also enclosing the sleeve (2). The sleeve design allows the roller to retain its characteristics even when the covering wears.
