A method is disclosed for recovering oil and gas from oil sand, oil shale and/or oil chalk through pyrolysis in a pyrolysis fluidized bed which is indirectly heated to from 400 to 1000.degree.C, and preferably from 500 to 750, the heating of the pyrolysis fluidized bed being effected through heating tubes.
