The invention relates to a ventilation device for the loading space of closed railway goods wagons having side walls consisting essentially of sliding wall parts. In this type of goods wagon, the ventilation devices usually arranged in the side walls cannot be used due to the low constructional height of the sliding wall part. The object of the invention is to find a suitable, economically manufacturable ventilation device for these goods wagons. According to the invention, the ventilation opening in the end wall of the railway goods wagon is arranged between two vertical end wall columns near to the top end of the end wall, a cover being provided at a distance in front of the ventilation opening, which cover engages above the ventilation opening in a labyrinth-like manner in the end wall.
