The invention relates to a liquid preservative for electroplated metal surfaces in the form of aqueous wax dispersions which contain a specific ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer wax comprising from 8 to 25 % by weight of acrylic acid units and from 92 to 75 % by weight of ethylene units in partially or fully neutralised form, in particular the use of this specific ethylene-acrylic acid copolymer wax for preserving electroplated metal surfaces and a process for preserving electroplated metal surfaces.
