In a device for laying large-format artificial bricks with a large number of parallel channels, which pass through each brick perpendicularly to the horizontal joint delimitations, with the aid of a crane-supported gripper which consists of a magazine for a number of layers of artificial bricks stacked one above another and a pair of interacting manipulators, each of which preferably has a pair of flexible traction means with associated traction means drives and grippers, which in each case have a strip pair interacting with a brick cutout and a control gear with an axial drive, it is envisaged according to the invention that the magazine consists of the free ends of the flexible traction means and porous housing, which are suspended on the traction means and in each case receive a gripper drive, and that the grippers are designed to be self-locking under loading with the weight of the artificial bricks in the magazine and the drives serving for release are accommodated in the housings.
