In the case of an apparatus (6) for preventing plant growth around bar-shaped elements (1, 2), such as tree trunks, lamp posts, crash-barrier posts, trellis posts or the like, to an extent that the plant growth can still be reached by mowing rollers, mowing blades or the like, a solution is to be provided by means of which the plant growth (5) in the immediate vicinity of such bar-shaped elements (1, 2) can be prevented in an environmentally friendly manner, with the result that mowing can be effected by conventional mowers without further work having to be carried out afterwards. This is achieved in that the apparatus is formed from a divided protective disc (6) which consists of impact-resistant plastic and has an interior cutout (9) for engaging around the body in question.
