In order to make it possible to accommodate the stapling mechanisms (1) glued to a carrier tape in a despatch container (3) in as space-saving a way as possible, the segments of the carrier tape (2) forming the reversing loops (14) during the zigzag-shaped stacking are cut into a plurality of narrow connecting strips (75) by a multiplicity of knife or punching cuts extending in the longitudinal direction of the tape, so that the mutually confronting staples of two layers lying directly one above the other can lie next to one another offset laterally relative to one another. Moreover, the adhesive tape is subdivided by transversely extending parallel cuts, by means of a further cutting device, into strips which correspond to the baseplate width of the stapling mechanisms and which remain fastened to these for further processing.
