Vacuum-impregnation of a superconducting coil

A process for producing a superconducting coil comprises the step of applying an ultrasonic vibration to impregnating varnish 32 while evacuating a superconducting coil assembly 8 to be impregnated. The ultrasonic vibration promotes the removal of any voids which may be present in the superconducting coil assembly 8 during the vacuum-impregnation. Vibration is provided by means of a piezo-electric, ultrasonic vibrator 50 on wall 46 of a vibrating device 40 disposed in varnish bath 30. IMAGE
