Method and instrument to estimate the weights of green trees and logs

Method and apparatus to estimate the weight of the trees and logs in a stand of trees before harvesting to maximize the efficiency of aerial logging are disclosed. A hydrometer that has a chamber which accepts a small known volume core from the tree determines the density thereof. Statistical modeling permits weight estimations for the entire stand based on this density and other conventional information about the stand of trees.
