PURPOSE:To easily measure methanol concn. with high accuracy by bringing a sample into simultaneous contact with two pieces of different microorganism electrodes and utilizing the proportional relation between the difference in the decreased amts. of the respective electrode currents and the methanol concn. CONSTITUTION:Two kinds of the microorganism electrodes 4, 5 formed by adsorbing and immobilizing microorganisms on membrane filters are set in a measurement cell 6. A buffer soln. of 7 pH in which oxygen is saturated is continuously passed through the cell 6 and a fermentation liquid which is a sample is injected therein at 1hr intervals. The decreased values of the electrode currents obtd. by the microorganism electrodes 4, 5 are measured. Since the proportional relation is admitted between the methanol concn. in the sample and the difference in the decreased values of the electrode currents obtd. with two pieces of the microorganism electrodes 4, 5, the methanol concn. is determined from said difference in the decreased amts. of the electrode currents.
