CONSTITUTION:A primary approximation post-processing means 21 to recognize an indeterminate character string as it is, a topic under-standing means 22 to recognize the topic of a character string from the key word of the entire character string by analysing the character string, and an inderminate word correction means 23 that corrects the output result of the means 21 based on the result obtained by the means 22 then outputs a final result of the post-processing. Thus an inderminate result of a character recognition is corrected. In such a way, the recognition of a word not registered in the dictionary or the solution word for a character having no solution is speculated upon, hence the character recognition rate can be improved, and a character recognition has been less accurate can be corrected to be more accurate, and the causes of inferior quality of a character such as discontinuity, vaigness, etc. of a copied image of character can be coped with.
