The fuel pre-heater comprises a fuel pipe to transfer fuel from a tank with a heating element around the pipe, to heat the fuel. The pipe is formed by a vertical (21,22) riser tube whose length is approximately equal to that of the tank and which is let down through an opening in the tank wall. The space between and around the heating element and the riser tube is filled with a conductor (29) comprising a tube with sealed ends contg. heat conductive material, e.g. oil, aluminium, or ceramic material. The part of the preheater lowered into the tank is cylindrical and is attached in the tank opening. The heating element comprises a helical tube (20) whose ends are connected to a heating unit and project from the top of the cylinder.
