The generating cell contains a toroidal permanent magnet (11) installed in an electrically generated rotating magnetic field, the magnetising direction (12) of the field being at an angle to that of the permanent magnet. Above the top of the permanent magnet (11) is a ferrite disc (13) which acts as a magnetic amplifier. The resultant flux induces an electric current in a copper disc (14) which is positioned above, but insulated from, the ferrite disc. The assembly is held together by an outer tubular body (15) of ferrous material. The terminals supplying the current are a copper pin (16) in the middle of the disc and another (17) near its edge. The cell is designed to produce a relatively high current at low voltage. A varient which uses a toroidal coil in place of the copper disc produces a low current at high voltage.
