A process for the heat sealing of glass containers involving applying at least to the rim of the container intended to receive the sealing foil a resin-containing composition and in that, after drying, there is applied to said rim a foil which is intended for sealing purposes and is coated with a lacquer or a plastic film, by means of a heating arrangement, for a period and at a temperature which are sufficient to fix the foil on the container and to seal it, characterised in that a composition containing an aminoplast resin or a mixture of aminoplast resin and acrylic resin in aqueous medium is applied to the rim of the glass container at a temperature of from 70 to 150 degrees C.
