The bottle stack consists of a multiplicity of bottles, in particular wine bottles or the like, stacked upright one above the other on several levels with interposition of intermediate bottoms. The stack has a container bottom (12) which rests on a dimensionally stable substructure (11), in particular a stacking pallet, or is fixedly connected to it and has side walls (14), in which the bottles (15) situated on the lowest level (16) are placed in contact with one another, the side walls (14) positively surrounding the bottles (15) on the outside and being of a height which is lower than the essential information on the bottle labels. The stack also has intermediate bottoms (20) which are supported by the necks (22) or shoulders of the bottles (15) of the lower level in each case and have openings (19), through which the top ends (21) of the necks (22) of the bottles (15) project, on which ends the bottles (15) of the next higher level in each case stand with their bottoms in such a way that the top ends (21), projecting through the openings (19) in the intermediate bottom (20), of the necks (22) of four adjacent bottles (15) in each case are in contact with the bottles (15) standing on the intermediate bottom.
