Thixotropic preparations in a wide variety of applications contain silicon dioxide as a thickening or thixotropic component, which is added to liquid systems. In some preparations, the silica tends to settle. In preparations that form stronger H-bridges, the thixotropic effect of SiO2 can be significantly weakened. The new thixotropic preparations are said to contain auxiliaries which activate the silicon dioxide or enhance its effect.
