Zirconia ceramic material toughened with SiC whiskey

Abstract of the DisclosureWhisker-toughened ZrO2 products containing 5-20volume percent SiC whiskers of relatively low aspectratio (20) in a stabilized polycrystalline ZrO2 matrixare provided, exhibiting a room temperature fracturetoughness (KIC) at least 1.25 times that of the ZrO2matrix, with relatively low porosity and good strength.
