To test the erosion due to jet wear or rinsing wear on a specimen, the specimen (1) is moved at high velocity through a solid fluidised bed (4) in which abrasive particles (2) are held in suspension. Preferably, the abrasive particles (2) are kept in suspension by an upwardly directed gas jet (3) and the specimen (1) is moved along a circular path which passes through the solid fluidised bed (4). The solid fluidised bed (4) is produced by a particle feed and collecting tank (5) and an upwardly directed gas nozzle (6) at the deepest point in the tank (5). A plurality of fixings for specimens may be present on the circumference of the specimen mounting (8) and the angle of inclination of the specimen (1) may be adjustable. IMAGE
