PURPOSE:To reduce the working time by successively correcting the grindstone position shift on the basis of a prescribed measurement value, keeping a grindstone spindle in revolution, until an aimed grinding value is obtained, and carrying out the dimension measurement of the grindstone in the installed state onto the grindstone spindle. CONSTITUTION:One point on the grinding edge surface of a grindstone and two points on the grinding outer peripheral surface of a grindstone 4 are detected as the grindstone position shift quantity in the X, Y, and Z directions in noncontact by a three-axis detection type air micrometer device 7. The detected air pressure signal is converted to an electric signal by a conversion device 9. Further, the not-cut quantity of a ground work W is measured at one point in the tool length direction and two points in the tool diameter direction by a sensor device 17. Six measurement values are inputted into an NC device, and the position of the grindstone 4 is automatically corrected successively, keeping a grindstone spindle in revolution, until an aimed grinding value is obtained. Therefore, the detection cycle and the working time can be reduced, and disposition of the transient thermal shift is permitted.
