PURPOSE:To perform full penetration welding of a thick plate T joint and to perform welding with high efficiency and high quality by dividing a weld line of the T joint into two welding ranges in the width direction and projecting an electron beam on each welding range so as to cross it. CONSTITUTION:A vertical plate 2 is stuck and abutted on a bottom plate 1 without providing a groove and while projecting the electron beam 3 in a vacuum chamber by an electron gun fixed at a necessary angle, an object 4 to be welded is moved and one side of the T joint is subjected to beam welding. The irradiation angle of the beam is made to the angle where the beam 3 passes the position at the prescribed distance above the weld line 5 of the vertical plate 2 and the position below by the prescribed distance from the weld line at the position of the center of the plate thickness of the vertical plate 2. When the beam welding of the weld line of one side is finished, the direction of the object 4 to be welded is changed to perform the welding of the other one side in the same way. The laser beam welding can be performed in the air or in inert gas. By this method, the full penetration welding of the T joint can be performed and the welding with the high quality can be performed.
