The Norwegian scate has a blade in a blade retainer which is attached to the foot. The blade retainer is integral with or bolted directly to a support on the sole of the boot for supporting the boot w.r.t. to the blade. The support has a rigid plate provided over a considerable part of the sole. The blade is made of ceramic material. The retainer forms a tube under the boot which has a front and rear chamfered sides, running towards the point of the blade. The support has an invented U-section with the length of the U-legs in the middle under the boot, which reduces near toe and heel. The blade can pivot w.r.t. the boot.
