Catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide on Pt and/or Pd/MgO catalysts

A composition of matter comprising alumina and/or magnesia and Pt and/or Pd has been prepared by a process comprising the step of heating Pt and/or Pd-impregnated alumina and/or magnesia with a reducing gas, in particular free hydrogen, at a temperature of about 550-700°C. The above composition of matter is used as catalyst in a process for oxidizing CO to CO₂, e.g., in a CO₂ laser.
