A superconductor which is capable of stably exhibiting superconductivity in the temperature range of from the temperature of liquid nitrogen to room temperature can be produced by irradiating an yttrium, scandium or lanthanoid compound oxide having a perovskite structure with radiation which is capable of causing atomic displacement, i.e., a charged particle beam such as an electron beam, proton beam or heavy-ion beam, or a non-charged particle beam such as a neutron beam. Where the radiation is a charged particle beam, the dose of radiation should be in the range of from 1010 to 1021/cm2. Where the radiation is a non-charged particle beam, the dose of radiation should be in the range of from 1015 to 1018/cm2.
