Modular building block construction system - uses facing panels which attach to blocks by metal tabs before they are laid

The solid or hollow block construction employs panels (1) of a prefabricated facing material, e.g. reconstituted stone, which are attached to the blocks on at least one surface as they are laid. The facing panels have metal tabs (5) which are moulded into them and proejct on the inside adjacent to their edges so that they fix to the edges of the blocks and are held in place by the mortar between the blocks as the blocks are laid in courses. The tabs can be shaped so that they control the thickness of the mortar layer between blocks, or so that they interlock with the tabs of the courses above and below. Each panel can be multi-layered, e.g. incorporating a layer of an insulating material. ADVANTAGE - Obviates need to render or face blocks after laying.
