A safety ski binding has a detachable sole plate (1) which is attached to the ski boot by means of a clamp lever (5). The wedge shaped front end of the plate (44) is located by a fixed anchor plate (20). A cable (7) with an anchor plug (25) is also located by the adjustable centre spigot (30) of the anchor plate (20). The cable then runs through the sole plate to the rear end of the ski binding where its other end (10) is hooked to a fixed plate (11). A spring loaded disc, (8) with two cable wheels (18, 19) is located in the centre of the sole plate. It provides the required cable tension which holds the plate (1) on the ski unless the applied forces from the ski boot are excessive.
