The cigar making machine encloses the end part of a strip forming a cover round the shaped head of a cigar blank with a system for rolling the blank on the strip when this is on a supporting surface. It has a mechanism pressing the end part of the strip onto the head during part at least of the winding operation of the strip end round it, and comprising one or more head blocks (22) conveyed by a transporter mechanism (12, 12', 14, 14') along the supporting surface, so as to engage and then disengage from the head during the rolling operation of the blank on the strip. The blocks are shaped to suit the head.
