Appts. includes two pistons slidable in the channel bore. One piston slides along a stem of the other piston. A spring is compressed between the two pistons. In use, the appts. is located upstream relative to a series of fuel bundles. When the downstream end of the channel is opened, the pistons move apart causing entrainment in the codant flow. Ejection is caused by codant flow entrainment while ensuring that the last bundle of a series does not become trapped in a stagnant coolant region.
