GAME OF SKILL PLAYABLE BY REMOTE PARTICIPANTS IN CONJUNCTION WITH A LIVE EVENT

ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTIONA game of skill is playable by several remote participantsin conjunction with a live event, for example, a footballgame which is being observed by the participantson their television receivers. In the participant'sremote location, a game console receives various gameinstructions and scoring information including the snaptime, for example, of a football play via an FM subcarrierchannel. Part of the data of this channel provideslockout information to prevent a play from being enteredafter the ball has been snapped. Scoring at the remotelocation is provided by a memory table at the remotelocation in association with degree of difficulty datawhich is transmitted via the FM system. In addition, averification code or anti-cheating technique is providedby the use of several counters which are randomly startedby counter start signals also transmitted over the FMsystem. After the live event, in a very short timeinterval, via telephone lines, all of the counter andscoring information is downloaded to a central computerto be checked, verified and final standings of all thevarious participants are computed.
