A PROCESS FOR ACTIVATING NODULATION PROMOTERS OF RHIZOBIUM-BACTERIA

A process for activating nodulation promoters of Rhizobium, Bradyrhizobium and related bacteria which process comprises introducing a DNA fragment in the bacterium, which fragment is identical to, derived from or comprises a hybrid nodD gene which can be obtained by recombination between nodD genes of Rhizobium or related bacteria. Some of said hybrid nodD genes lead to a broader host range and provide a better nitrogen fixation. Examples of said hybrid nodD genes are genes which comprise parts of the nodD gene or R.trifolii and of the nodD1 gene of R.meliloti.
