A combined adsorption/rectification process for separating a fluid mixture consisting of liquids of different boiling points into a higher-boiling liquid, in particular water, and a lower-boiling, especially organic liquid having a starting concentration of more than 80 % by volume by pressure-swing adsorption and rectification is described. A charge stream coming from a vaporiser or from the top of a vaporiser or a rectification column is passed through an adsorption system which consists of at least three periodically controlled adsorption beds whose adsorbents preferentially adsorb the higher-boiling liquid. The adsorption beds are alternately regenerated or charged and, by means of indirect heating, always maintained above dew point of the liquid mixture which is to be separated. The low-boiling pure end product separated off is condensed in a condenser which heats the work-up column operated under vacuum for working up the return flows from the fixed-bed adsorbers.
