In the case of a device for separating a solid/liquid mixture into its solid components and its liquid component using a worm extruder, the free end of the shaft of the worm is situated in the conveying direction, is free of conveying plates, acts as a plunger and fits into a shoulder which takes the form of a cylinder press and adjoins the casing of the worm extruder. Furthermore, the worm is mounted so as to be axially displaceable and permits, in its end position situated in the direction of input into the worm extruder, passage through the casing and the cylindrical shoulder and in its other end position situated in the conveying direction, the worm projects with its end which is free of conveying plates, as a plunger into the cylindrical shoulder and blocks the passage through the casing and the cylindrical shoulder. The pre-dehydrated separated material which is situated in the cylindrical shoulder can be compacted in this process and conveyed out of the extruder.
