Device for receiving reels (6) of film and for removing severed pieces of the film (25), having a casing which has a fixed casing part (5) and a folding lid (10; 10') which is arranged at the front and behind which the roll of film is mounted, and having a cutting carriage (1, 16') which can be displaced transversely to the casing and to the width of the film and the cutting device of which can be used to sever a length of film which has been drawn off the reel outside the reel of film. The guide (11) of the cutting carriage (16; 16') is arranged in the region of the lower edge (13) of the folding lid (10; 10'). Between the casing (5) and the lower edge (13) of the folding lid there is formed a stop (14) for the folding lid (10; 10'), the clamping gap (24) which is situated between them simultaneously constituting the passage for the length (25) of film as long as the lid is unloaded. When the folding lid (10; 10') is loaded, the length (25) of film is held fast. That part of the cutting carriage (16; 16') which supports the cutting device (23; 29) projects beyond the lower edge (13) of the folding lid (10; 10') causing the sphere of action of the cutting device (23; 29) to be situated at a distance from the clamping gap (24).
