The invention relates to a film-viewing device, in particular X-ray-film viewing device, consisting of a housing (1) having a transparent or translucent housing wall (3), which can be illuminated by a light source (2) arranged in the housing (1), onto which housing wall a film (4) which is to be viewed can be placed, the housing (1) having a switching device, assigned to the light source, for switching on and off the light source and for controlling its brightness, in the case of which switching device, for achieving the object of having no passage openings on the front surface, of preventing the penetration of dirt (soil) into the inside of the housing, and allowing hygienically correct cleaning, disinfection, and servicing, an automatic electric control is provided which responds to the placing or removal of the film, for switching on and off an electrostatic field for holding the film or for switching on and off the light source or for controlling its brightness.
