The measuring device is plugged in to a personal computer via a respective adaptor, to allow operation as an automatic weather station. It uses a hemispherical carrier to which 24 phototransistors are attached protected against the weather by a glass hood. The individual data values provided by the phototransistors are combined to obtain an image of the brightness distribution of the sky, compared with previously obtained images, to allow a weather pattern to be established.
