The invention relates to a device making it possible to acquire the Chinese characters for printing them or transmitting them. It consists of a character storage table organised into pages, of a keyboard 2 with codifying keys 5, 6 and 8, and selection keys 7, of a display 3 and of suitable software. In response to action on the codifying keys 5, 6 and 8, the software is capable of causing each of the pages of the table to appear on the display 3. The set of characters displayable in one single action on the keyboard 2 includes the whole of the Chinese roots. When the page containing the desired character is displayed, the latter is acquired by actuating the selection key immediately below the character. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for typing texts, or for telex or video text transmission. IMAGE
