PURPOSE:To make the deflection of the pointer of a meter displaying a printing level constant, by operating all of the lighting elements under the level corresponding to the detected transmittance of light through an original while the transmittance of the light through the original is under detection and lighting one among the plural lighting elements corresponding to the printing level when the printing stage after the detection of the transmittance of the light through the original is attained. CONSTITUTION:The 1st control circuit 53 for a display level controls the operation of the plural lighting elements of a display means 68 for automatic printing level and lights all of the lighting elements under the highest level in the transmittance of the light through the original including the lighting element of the means 68 while the transmittance of the light through the original is under detection. When a changeover circuit 55 receives a control signal from a timing circuit 60 after the transmittance of the light through the original is detected, said circuit releases the connection of the circuit 53 connected to the means 68 and connects the 2nd control circuit 64 for a display level to the means 68. The circuit 64 controls lighting of the means 68 in accordance with the signal from a latch circuit 62 and lights one element corresponding to the printing level among the plural lighting elements.
