PURPOSE: To easily and exactly perform tamping by providing a tool frame on a machine frame so as to move a side around a vertical direction axial center independently each other under power of each driving part. CONSTITUTION: When a machine 1 reaches a switching section including a main trunk track and a branch track 35, a pivotally driving tool frame 21 supported by a machine frame 2 is pivotally moved under power of a driving part 18 so that a tamping device 15 may be located at a center location on an outside rail 73. Under power of other driving parts, the tamping device 15 is pivotally moved around a vertical axial center till tamping fork parts 46, 47 are placed in parallel to a tie 5. After the tamping fork parts 46, 47 are applied to a rail 50 under power of hydraulic operation driving parts 43, 44, the tamping device 15 is lowered into gravel, and a tie and a tie supporting surface at an intersection 74 are tamped.
