PURPOSE:To display a wide visual field image with high definition by superposing a wide visual field display image and an image of the periphery of an aimed point that an observer observes one over the other and scanning the image of the periphery of the aimed point when the observation point of the observer moves. CONSTITUTION:A central processing part 20 selects the image of the periphery of the aimed point in a high-definition image storage part 22 and outputs the image whose peripheral part is processed by smoothing filter processing to an aimed point periphery image output terminal 18. Further, the central processing part 20 deletes a part which overlaps with the aimed point periphery image from the wide visual field image which is inputted from the storage part 21 and displays the resulting image on a CRT display 1 for wide visual field image display. Consequently, the wide visual field image is projected on a half-mirror 11 through a specific optical path. Then the image which includes the periphery of the aimed point with a wide visual field and high definition is seen with the observer's eye 16 through a specific optical path.
