The invention relates to a standardized method for handling tissue samples 3, which have been taken with a sampling instrument, until a frozen or otherwise fixed section is available. The method entails taking a tissue sample 3 with a sampling instrument and transferring it to a receptacle 1 containing a transport liquid and further entails, where necessary, transporting the receptacle with the tissue sample to a laboratory. The characterizing process steps for the invention are transfer of the biopsy sample present in the transport liquid to a shell-mould 6 and levelling of the biopsy sample, which is constantly surrounded by transport liquid, in a recess 10 in the shell-mould 1 corresponding to the general shape of the biopsy sample. A means for practising the method comprises a shell-mould 6,12, which has firstly a recess 7,13 and secondly an additional recess 10,15 disposed in the bottom 8,14 of the recess, the cross section of which additional recess essentially corresponds to the cross section of the tissue sample, whereby the tissue sample is fixed in levelled state either by freezing on a freezing table or by immersion in paraffin.
