ABSTRACTExtracellular enzymes are stabilized witha carboxyalkylated or phosphonoalkylated polymerhaving a molecular weight of at least 500 Daltons.Exemplified is the stabilization of the enzyme glu-cose isomerase used in a process to convert D-glucoseto D-fructose. In a preferred embodiment of theinvention the feedstream containing the substrate iscontacted initially with the stabilizer and then withthe enzyme. In this system the stabilizer and enzymeare maintained in separate reactors. This separation, advantageously, results in a higher half-life for theenzyme.
