The fibre-baling press comprises a stable machine frame having a press ram which is mostly displaceable from the top downwards and under which a press box can be displaced. The press box comprises a press-box casing (2) which should be closed all around. It stands on a press-box base, which in this case simultaneously forms the lower press plate (1) for the pressing operation. Both the press ram and, in particular, the press-box base should be designed in the manner of a trough according to the invention in order to give the piece of packaging material for the upper and lower side of the bale a pre- orientation towards the bale after the press-box casing is removed from the bale. It is a particular advantage if the trough-like opening cross-section of the base plate (1) is greater than the cross-section of the press-box casing (2) in order to prevent the compressed material from swelling up over the four side flanges (6') of the trough after the press-box casing has been removed.
